Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, the former member of parliament for Ejisu for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has decided to run as an independent in the next by-election.
His decision is a result of what he sees as the NPP National Leadership’s unwillingness to address important issues with the current Delegates Album, which he feels compromises party equity and integrity.
Friday, April 12, 2024, saw the release of a statement by Mr Owusu Aduomi’s campaign assistant, Nana Osei Bonsu, revealing that the anomalies noted during the Ejisu polling station executive elections had a significant impact on his choice.
These anomalies were judged intolerable in a democratic society, including the claimed arbitrary appointment of individuals by the late NPP Regional Executives and MP of Ejisu, John Kumah.
The turbulent Ejisu polling station executive elections, which were tainted by anomalies that would have been considered intolerable in any democratic society, are the origin of this decision.
“With the support of the NPP Regional Executives, the late MP of Ejisu chose people at random to occupy important positions—a flagrant contempt for the party’s constitution and core values—instead of following the democratic process.
“Such actions have rightfully stirred vehement protests from conscientious party members and stakeholders across the nation. The issue has even found its way into the courts for adjudication, underscoring the gravity of the situation and the need for redress.
“Hon. Owusu-Aduomi’s decision to contest the by-election as an independent candidate underscores his unwavering commitment to upholding democratic values and ensuring transparency and accountability within the party. By refusing to participate in an ostensibly flawed process, he sends a clear message that integrity and fairness must prevail, even at the expense of personal political aspirations.”
