The GPRTU and GRTCC have advised commuters not to pay any unapproved new transport fares until they are officially approved.
The Transport Operators Union and the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana have announced a 30% increase in transport fares from April 13. Any fare increase outside the parameters set by the Administrative Instrument governing the review of public transport fares is illegal.
GPRTU and GRTCC are engaging with stakeholders and the Ministry of Transport to ensure that any adjustments to transport fares align with established regulatory frameworks and are in the best interest of both transport operators and commuters.
They have urged all drivers and Assemblies to comply with the existing fares. They also assured the public that they would continue to push for the welfare of transport operators.

PURPORTED INCREASE IN PUBLIC TRANSPORT FARES
It has been brought to our attention that some drivers have raised transport fares without authorization, violating the Administrative Instrument for public transport fare review.
We are working with stakeholders to address cost components and will inform the public once consensus is reached. Any fare increase beyond that in the Administrative Instrument should be ignored.
We urge the public not to pay any fare outside the existing fares.
We call on Regional Administrations, Assemblies and Welfare committees to ensure compliance. We urge drivers to follow this directive and have confidence in our leadership.
