The former President and current flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has urged the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) to put pressure on Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia to eliminate certain taxes that have been causing inconvenience to the traders, which were introduced by the current government.
During his address to GUTA members, Mahama emphasized the importance of this issue and called upon Dr Bawumia, who is also the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), to take immediate action instead of waiting until he is elected President.
Dr. Bawumia had previously outlined his plans to abolish various taxes, including the E-Levy, emissions tax, VAT on electricity, and the betting tax, during one of his speeches on his presidential aspirations.
During the meeting, Mahama advised GUTA members to hold Dr Bawumia accountable for his commitments, cautioning them against blindly trusting his assurances. He emphasized that Bawumia should eliminate the E-Levy and other taxes now, not later.
