The public has been warned by the police not to accept any invitations to attend a planned protest today Thursday, September 21.
A plea to halt the three-day protest outside the Jubilee House has been filed at the High Court, according to information released earlier on Wednesday by the Ghana Police Service’s Accra Regional Command.
However, the organizers of the planned demo disregarded the police announcement and urged people to gather on Thursday morning at the 37 bus station in preparation for the march to the government building.
They assert no court directive has been served to them.
The Command has reacted by saying that on Tuesday, September 19, the order was delivered to the organizers via their lawyers, Atuguba & Associates.
The planned demonstration’s organizers chose and ordered that the lawyers serve the legal procedure on them in a letter of notification to the police dated September 4, 2023.
“In the aforementioned letter, the organizers specified that the police may contact them through their attorneys, Atuguba & Associates, as a result of which the court’s summons and petition were served through their lawyers.”
To maintain public order and safety, the police advise the general population to ignore any invitations to participate in “illegal” demonstrations.
