On September 20, 2023, around 7:00 PM, a motorcycling gang attacked a 25-year-old woman near Aprade Junction in the Oforikrom Municipality.
The woman was shot many times in the legs by the group after they opened fire on her.
It’s unclear if the woman tried to fight off the gang that ambushed her at the peaceful intersection and robbed her of her possessions.
A taxi driver who made a daring dash to whisk the bleeding lady to the Living Waters Hospital, Prince Agyapong,
Prince Agyapong, a taxi driver who made a brave run to get the bleeding woman to the Living Waters Hospital, recalled how people lived in constant fear of attacks from these motorbike bandits.
“They arrive on these regal motorcycles and look quite weird. My gut told me they were leaving for an operation when I drove past them on the way here.
A short while later, I heard intermittent gunfire. I turned around and moved in closer to discover this woman being attacked. Being a fairly daring young man, I chose to go directly to the woman, lift her, and stop a friend’s taxi to rush her to the hospital, he described.
“My brother, you will be moved to tears if you see what they have done to the legs of this young lady who is sobbing violently in the emergency room. It’s a pitiful sight,” a saddened Agyapong lamented.
Women in particular have been targets for motor riding gangs who attack unaware before morning and in the nights in Aprade, Oduom, and its neighboring communities scattered along the Kumasi Ejisu route in the Ashanti Region.
A woman who talked to Ultimate News recalled multiple instances in which these thieves waited in ambush at dawn to seize the possessions of traders who typically left their homes at those times for the market.
“Only four days ago, they returned here, held a woman hostage, and took everything she had on her, including her money. They are outsiders in this neighborhood, she recalled.
Prince Agyapong, the brave taxi driver, expressed concern that all of their requests for the police to increase patrols in the area had been ignored.
“Police from Tech, Oduom, Ejisu, and all these locations have now woken up from their sleep to come and enquire what transpired when this tragedy happened. Why must they wait till someone dies before acting? What if I received a call saying that my sister had been robbed and injured by armed thugs like this? Agyapong.
