The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that a by-election will be held at Ejisu on Tuesday, April 30, following the death of the New Patriotic Party’s member of parliament, John Kumah.
John Kumah was also a Deputy Finance Minister and passed away on Thursday, March 7, at the age of 45, after succumbing to an illness. He left behind a wife and six children.
The vetting committee of the NPP has approved nine candidates to contest in a primary to elect a candidate on Saturday, April 6. The opposition National Democratic Congress is yet to express interest in the by-election. The NPP opened nominations on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, and all nine candidates submitted their applications by the closing date on Thursday, April 4.

- Helena Mensah
- Jacqueline Abena Pokua Amoah-Boaitey

- Yaa Akyawmaa Aboagye
During a media briefing, Evans Nimako, who serves as the Director of Elections for the New Patriotic Party, announced that all nine aspirants have been given clearance to participate in the upcoming contest.
This ensures that all party members who are interested in the race have ample opportunities. Mr. Nimako also stated that the ballot has been conducted and that the National Executives of the party will be meeting with the aspirants on Tuesday.
