Assin North residents have received assurances from former president John Dramani Mahama that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will support them if they won the 2024 general elections.
After James Gyakye Quayson won the by-election on June 27, Mahama gave a speech as part of the “Thank You Tour” in which he recognized the historical significance of Assin North and expressed optimism about the NDC’s prospects for retaking power in the future elections.
“The people of Assin North will have their name inscribed in gold if history is written about elections in Ghana. Our march to retake power has begun with the victory in this by-election. We will carry over this momentum into the general election of 2024. I have faith in the Almighty God to grant the NDC victory in the next election.”
He emphasized the party’s commitment to supporting Gyakye Quayson, who is facing legal charges related to his eligibility to contest in the 2020 general elections.
The revered High Court judge known as The Dormaahene has pleaded with President Akufo-Addo and the Attorney General to drop the charges since further prosecution is not necessary. However, he received harsh criticism for his appeal.
Whatever they do, we in the NDC will continue to back Gyakye Quayson unwaveringly. If the Attorney General drops the case, we’ll be fine with it. He will have our support in the morning, noon, and night.
