The National Sports Authority received over GH₵70,000 from Stonebwoy’s manager, Chief Abiola, to obtain the Accra Sports Stadium for his 5th Dimension Concert, which took place on December 22, 2023.
This isn’t the story that National Sports Authority (NSA) Director General Peter Twumasi told the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee on Monday, February 5, 2024.
Stonebwoy was said to have paid GH₵70,000 in the account.
“I must be frank with you, these matters are contractual and I would prefer not to discuss them in a public space. However, the Public Accounts Committee is serious and since the matter is before them, I cannot state otherwise.
What I can tell you is that Stonebwoy delegated me to lead the negotiations and payment for the stadium. I can also confirm that we paid more than GH₵70,000 for the stadium. However, I am simply observing how things unfold and I cannot disclose further details at this time. I hope you understand,” he said.
Peter Twumasi became the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) in 2018 and has been criticized for not giving enough attention to the stadiums in the country.
He has received a lot of criticism for renting out the Accra Sports Stadium for concerts in December 2023. The NSA announced that the stadium would not be available for sporting events during December, and the clubs were asked to find alternative pitches for their Ghana Premier League home games.
When he appeared before the Public Account Committee on Monday, February 5, 2024, Twumasi defended the move saying “Before we shifted our sporting activities to other stadia, we made mention of this to all stakeholders that in December, a particular period will be used for other events which are not sporting and the revenue for it should be able to recover entirely everything.”
