The Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, has assured the United States Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia E. Palmer, that the December 7th general election will be peaceful.
Mr. Quartey stated that the government has provided all necessary resources to the security agencies, especially the police, to ensure a peaceful exercise.
He made these remarks during a meeting with Madam Palmer at his office in Accra to discuss matters of interest between the two countries.
The Minister emphasized that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has given instructions to ensure peaceful elections.
He highlighted the measures put in place to guarantee this, including the formation of an election task force to ensure peace and security during the exercise.
The Ministry will also soon roll out activities to conscientious key stakeholders and the public on the importance of peaceful and smooth elections.
Mr Quartey also noted that the government is creating an enabling environment for businesses and investors to thrive, and it is, therefore, incumbent on the Government to ensure peace and security in the country.
He assured that the Government will continue to retool the security services to perform their duties effectively and professionally.
In response, Her Excellency Virginia Palmer expressed confidence that the upcoming American elections will go well and America will remain victorious.
