A 27-year-old taxi driver named Kofi Donkoh was arrested by the Agona Swedru Divisional Police Command after he drove over a police officer at Agona Swedru.
The unfortunate incident occurred at the Agona Swedru Palace junction in the Agona West Municipality of the Central Region. The police officer was directing traffic when the incident happened.
According to police sources, the taxi driver with registration number GW 6086-22 was attempting to circumvent the heavy traffic on the stretch by driving on the shoulder of the road.
Unfortunately, the driver was driving at high speed and drove over the police officer who was standing on the shoulder of the road directing traffic.
The police officer, Constable Ernest Opare, sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the Agona Swedru Municipal Hospital. Meanwhile, the taxi driver is in police custody and will be arraigned in court.
