In the Kwahu Afram Plains South District, five people perished tragically in the Afram River while traveling by boat to farmlands at Azietsikorpe.
Assemblyman Johnson Anglesinya of the Gyata Electoral Area confirmed the event to faculty tv and said that six more people had been successfully rescued.
Twelve people were employed to labor on a farm on the other side of the Afram River.
They set out on a boat trip on Wednesday night without life jackets in the hopes of arriving at their goal on Thursday, November 9. Regretfully, there was a drowning.
While water levels have receded, the volumes in the Afram River remain high, posing a risk to boats, especially without proper safety measures. Rescue efforts are being coordinated by officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and residents near Afram Lake.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kwahu Afram Plains South, Evans Ntiri–Kyei, stated that he is awaiting an official briefing from the rescue team.
