Residents of Jar Love-down in the Ablekuma North Assembly’s “Been-tu” Electoral Area are alarmed about the area’s poor drainage system, which they claim frequently results in flooding.
To stop floods, a group of residents staged a demonstration and called for the building of a bridge and a storm drain.
They have threatened not to cast a ballot in the upcoming general elections if the drainage system is not fixed, expressing their deep indignation at the government’s cavalier attitude to their predicament.
The inhabitants have been complaining that even with little rainfall, the land entirely floods, which is bothering them.
On the sidelines, Simon Akpo, the leader of the concerned group, claimed that despite several attempts, neither the Member of Parliament nor the Municipal Chief Executive of Ablekuma North had addressed the matter.
According to him, the authorities have stopped making the effort to come to the area and assess the difficulties the residents are facing.
“We are consistently informed that construction on the nearby storm drain and bridge cannot begin until the central government secures sufficient funding for the undertaking.”
Meanwhile, every time it rains, floods cause property damage and the loss of many lives.
Mr. Akpo urged the government to address the drainage system immediately, threatening to stop Electoral Commission representatives from ever again holding polls in the area.
