There is currently tension in the New Juaben traditional area due to an incident where a group, reportedly led by the New Juaben divisional police commander, forcefully entered the stool room of the Adwampong royal family in Koforidua.
The confrontation arose when the queen mother of the Adwampong royal family resisted the unauthorized removal of the black stool.
This stool is a crucial component for the upcoming enstoolment ceremony of a new Chief for the family, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday, February 1, at the Yiadom Hwedie Palace, presided over by Daasebere Kwaku Boateng III.
The Queen Mother, Nana Akosua Afrakoma, who has been in charge of the stool for the past 29 years, claims that the Chief to be enstooled on Thursday night is unknown to her and has not been nominated, which is why she is resisting.
However, the team led by the Divisional Commander Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Baah, who is currently acting as the Koforidua District Police Commander, broke into the stool room and changed the locks with the help of heavily armed men from the Counter Terrorism Unit.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the district police’s actions, Nana Afrakoma II urged the Minister of National Security and the Regional Security Council to step in and stop the bloodshed.
“This morning, I received a call stating that they attempted to take the stool yesterday, Wednesday, but were resisted. As a result, they brought the police to break down my door this morning. I haven’t ruled with any of them in the last 29 years, so that’s my approach. Regarding the enstoolment they are doing, I do not know. Since they illegally stripped me of my tools, I no longer visit the palace.
Meanwhile, upon arriving at the Koforidua, the Queen mother’s son and daughter—who had been invited by Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Baah to file a formal complaint were detained instead.
