A melee broke out among some irate youths at the Ofankor Timber Market in Accra.
The youth, mostly shopkeepers, expressed their dissatisfaction, claiming they had hired the space and had been making payments on time.
However, it is said that armed men who were allegedly sent by the landowners harassed residents in the morning.
These individuals, according to the traders, were Land Guards when they invaded the area and disturbed their peace.
As a result, there was mayhem, with angry residents erecting huge blockades and setting tires on fire to vent their ire.
One of us has been shot and killed,”. Others were hurt as well, and they were sent to the hospital.
The tenants claim there are other legal alternatives to violence and assault if the landowners want to completely expel the residents.
As things became worse, the police were called. They succeeded in reestablishing the area’s stability.
The police acknowledged the matter was associated with a land legal action issue in a social media post.
Police said that they are conducting investigations into the development.
