The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is anticipated to launch ‘operation zero,’ a new revenue mobilization initiative aimed at collecting money from home users.
The two-month effort, which starts on July 11th, will involve staff deployment to collect debt, look for unauthorized connections, and install meters for new users.
Two months earlier, the ECG conducted a similar operation and earned GH3.1 billion.
According to Laila Abubakari, the ECG’s external communications manager, they will take advantage of the occasion to bring in a few new clients.
We are utilizing this chance to manage roughly three distinct businesses in one, she stated.
She clarified that the reason ECG is starting the special exercise is that the last one was a great success and encouraged consumers, especially those with postpaid service, to make on-time payments.
She continued by saying that the ECG and meter firms had reached an agreement to purchase more meters for clients who lacked them.
Additionally, the ECG will provide a moratorium to anyone using energy without paying for it, allowing them to go to their local ECG offices and request an instant regularization of their supply.
“We have started a loss reduction target, we don’t have a monetary target but we know that we have a deficit of at least 2 million customers on the system and using power illegally which is quite problematic,” she added.
