The Police Management Board (POMAB) has called COP Sayibu Gariba, the regional police commander for Accra, to testify over the barbaric treatment of #OccupyJulorbiHouse protesters by the police.
On September 21, the police used excessive force against the demonstrators who were rallying against the government’s economic policies and alleged corruption. About 50 protesters were apprehended, including journalists.
Ghanaians were outraged by the incident and claimed that the police used excessive force against vulnerable people.
The incident will also be the subject of a thorough investigation.
The Police Service has since expressed regret to the populace for whatever trouble the three-day protests may have caused.
Democracy Hub was the group in charge of organizing the #OccupyJulorbiHouse demonstration. The group is requesting that the government look into claims of corruption and deal with the nation’s economic issues.
The demonstration was held from Thursday, September 21, 2023 to Saturday, September 23. The protesters gathered at the 37 Lorry Station and attempted to march to the Jubilee House, the seat of government.
However, the police stopped the protesters from reaching the Jubilee House.
