The Ministry of Education has formed a seven-member committee to look into the recent huge failures in the Teacher Licensure Examination.
The Committee, chaired by John Ntim Fordjour, Deputy Minister of Education, has four weeks to deliver its findings to the Ministry.
Only 1,277 of the 7,728 potential teachers who took the tests in May 2023 succeeded.This figure represented 16.5 percent of all candidates who took the exam.
All of the candidates had taken the exam at least twice, and some had taken it as many as nine times.
The announcement of the results sparked outrage at the performance of the prospective teachers.
Following the failures, the Ghana National Association of Teachers demanded that measures be taken to avoid future failures.
Africa Education Watch, an education think tank, has also urged for a limit on the number of times a candidate can take the Examination in order to improve professional teaching standards.
