John Mahama, the NDC party leader, said that if elected, his government won’t recognize any agreement with SML due to corruption allegations. SML gets GH₵24m/month from the Ghanaian government to audit minerals and metals resources.
President Akufo-Addo suspended the contract and commissioned KPMG to audit its appropriateness. Mahama vowed to reject any SML agreements and hold accountable those who have received funds under the deal.
