The presidential candidate representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has committed to streamlining the ministerial appointments upon potential presidential election in the forthcoming elections. This initiative is geared towards curbing government expenditure, to utilize the resulting savings to enhance the welfare of citizens, particularly focusing on the betterment of teachers and other national employees.
During an address on Sunday, June 9, Mr. Mahama underscored the significance of his proposed “24-hour economy” as instrumental for national economic development. He elaborated that the strategy aims to establish a conducive operational framework, incorporating targeted policies for businesses, corporations, and governmental bodies to function round the clock in three eight-hour shifts.
In addition to the conventional 8-hour shift model, Mr. Mahama expressed, “The introduction of two supplementary work shifts by my administration is poised to substantially increase the employment opportunities within both public and private institutions.” Describing it as the “24-hour economy optimization strategy,” the objective is to ensure efficient service delivery and engender the creation of satisfactory, well-paying jobs.
Furthermore, he expounded on the anticipated benefits of this system, emphasizing its potential to encompass, among other aspects, 24-hour port and harbour services, 24-hour customs services, 24-hour DVLA services, 24-hour agro-processing facilities, 24-hour manufacturing enterprises, 24-hour construction firms, and a spectrum of other entities.
