Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), promised to unite all Ghanaians, irrespective of their political or religious inclinations, if he becomes the President.
During his meeting with the Council of Regional Imams, who visited his residence to congratulate him on his election as a flagbearer, the Vice President emphasized his vision for a nation that offers equal opportunities to everyone.
He stated that he is for all, and if elected President, he will be a leader for all people, regardless of their ethnicity, religious beliefs, or political affiliations.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized his commitment to being a President for all Ghanaians, regardless of their religion, political affiliation, or ethnicity.
He recognized the country’s diversity and the importance of maintaining peace and harmony among Ghanaians, particularly between the two major religious groups:
Christians and Muslims. Dr. Bawumia praised Ghana’s ongoing efforts to build tolerance and respect for diversity, which he attributed to the country’s peaceful coexistence.
He stated that Ghana’s peaceful coexistence results from the principles of tolerance and respect for diversity, which are critical in maintaining peace and harmony in the country.
“It is important for us all, especially between our two religious groups, to continue to respect this diversity and engage more with each other. We must strengthen this beautiful relationship to preserve it and the peace we enjoy in this country.”
The Imams commended Dr. Bawumia for his commitment to diversity and urged him to continue engaging with the Christian community to enhance harmony.
Sheikh Abdul Mumin Harun, Spokesperson of the Imams, commended the Vice President’s tolerance and respect for religious diversity, citing examples from the Prophet Muhammad’s life to underscore that Islam encourages building and strengthening harmonious relationships between Muslims and Christians.
