Vitus Azeem, an anti-corruption activist, has asked Kwasi Nyantakyi, the former president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), to think again about his decision to run in the next NPP Parliamentary primary for the Ejisu seat.
The parliamentary seat for the Ejisu constituency became vacant because Member of Parliament John Kumah passed away.
Although Azeem conceded that the statutes as they are do not forbid Nyantakyi from running, he argued that it would be unethical for him to do so.
The anti-corruption activist warned Nyantakyi to consider the ramifications before running for the by-election, stressing that the taint of corruption accusations would endure regardless of any investigations or prosecutions, in an interview with Umaru Sanda on Eyewitness News.
Whether or not he has been charged, it has left a stain on him that is difficult to remove. Even while it might not be legally possible to prevent him from running, he ought to think about doing so as someone who is engaged in politics and parliament.
“It’s not even that you came forward and said you paid money; it’s just that he was involved in the Anas investigations from the start, and even though he hasn’t been looked into or charged, he hasn’t been able to clear his name either. Now, he’s implicated himself by saying he paid money to Anas to prevent him from airing the expose because it contained information that would further implicate him. He shouldn’t stand if he has a conscience.
Additionally, he stated that if Kwasi Nyantakyi were to win the Ejisu seat, the corruption scandal would reemerge if he were to be appointed to a government position in the future.
