The former president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has promised that if he wins the upcoming election, he will foster an environment where anti-corruption organizations can effectively target corrupt officials.
According to Mr. Mahama, corrupt government personnel will be dissuaded from participating in unethical behavior when he is president.
He reaffirmed that corrupt people will face punishment under the new National Democratic Congress (NDC) government while addressing delegates in Lambussie in the Upper West Region.
Mr. Mahama highlighted that he would let anti-corruption organizations run independently and that he would not get involved with or defend anyone who engaged in corrupt behavior.
Whether they were in his government, prior governments, or the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government before him, he declared that anyone discovered stealing public funds would be subject to the full force of the law.
“We will deal with you if you take money from the public, whether you are a member of our government or one from the past. If I became president, I would permit anti-corruption organizations to operate. When they catch you, no one should come and beg me to save them. We must preserve this country, therefore if the anti-corruption authorities are dealing with you, whether you are in my government or not, or in the former NPP government, that is your business, Mr. Mahama stated.
