The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG)’s Afienya District has summoned a client at Gbetsile in Accra for illegally connecting power to 33 nearby structures.
The discovery was uncovered as part of ECG’s most recent national revenue mobilization effort, which got under way on May 29 and is scheduled to wrap up on June 2 of that same year.
When the consumer saw the ECG staff, they took on their heels. The team could, however, reach the meter because it was outside of his property.
Residents were approached by ECG authorities, and some of them claimed that they had been paying the meter owner on a monthly basis for the electricity they had been using.
The Tema Regional Office of the ECG’s public relations officer requested the perpetrator to come forward so that further action may be taken.
“This customer has chosen to supply electricity to the other 33 buildings. Further investigation also found that the meter owner had installed an unlawful connection known as a meter bypass. As a result, they are not being charged for the electricity they use because none of the power they use passes through the meter.
“The offender ran away when he saw the ECG staff, therefore we were unable to capture him. If the case goes to prosecution, we will do it after serving him with a summons and asking him to appear in the Tema ECG office.
