The leadership of former Menzgold Company Limited customers has contacted former president John Mahama, requesting his assistance in locating their assets that have been locked up in the illegal gold dealership and investment firm.
Since the business was shut down in 2018, the customers have suffered, with 217 people passing away and some experiencing blindness and mental illness.
The clients are currently pleading with the former President to lead them in asking the government for a bailout to ease their situation.
The group’s spokesperson, Mr. Fred Forson, made an emotional appeal to Mr. Mahama during a meeting with the former President in his Cantonments office on Friday. Mr. Forson described the group’s precarious predicament and the urgent need for a state bailout.
“We think it will be helpful when Your Excellency adds your voice. We sincerely want you to lead us in requesting a bailout plan from the state because where we are right now, we need one. Because life is so unbearably difficult for us,” he wailed.
“The state has wasted more than four years on this minor matter,” Nothing was done. Everyone will undoubtedly agree that it was the customers’ tenacity and persistence that allowed the Attorney-General to transfer the case from the lower court to the High Court. The civil part, which involves getting our money back, is still pending.
As one of the most regrettable events in the nation’s history, President Mahama expressed his sympathy to the victims. He thought that as insufficient regulatory oversights by the government frequently allow such fraudulent schemes to thrive, it bears responsibility for the victims who are citizens.
Additionally, he questioned why the government hasn’t yet seized the company’s assets, sold them at auction, and utilized the money to reimburse some of the investments made by customers.
President Mahama promised to join the Menzgold customers in drawing attention to their predicament in response to their petition. He encouraged the administration to give them all the information they require regarding its initiatives to improve their position.
The clients are hoping that with the former president’s assistance, they will be able to get their money back and make up for the damages they have incurred.
