Unfortunately, the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has had to take legal action against the Electoral Commission (EC) by filing an interlocutory injunction application. The CPP aims to halt the Ejisu by-election scheduled for April 30th until a lawsuit against the Electoral Commission is resolved.
The lawsuit against the Electoral Commission seeks to prevent Esther Osei from representing the party in the poll. Emmanuel Gallo, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the CPP, initiated the lawsuit, claiming that the party had already communicated its decision not to participate in the by-election to the Electoral Commission on April 18th.
We understand that the CPP’s move aims to prevent the by-election until the party’s concerns are addressed. The CPP contends that Esther Osei has not been officially endorsed through the party’s internal processes as required by its constitution.
The party claims that the selection of a parliamentary candidate for the constituency should involve the Constituency Branch Party Conference, followed by approval from the Central Committee, which has not taken place in this instance.
The CPP seeks to injure the by-election until its claims and demands are determined by the High Court.
We hope that the CPP’s concerns are addressed and that the Ejisu by-election will proceed fairly and transparently.
