The High Court in Accra’s Financial and Economic Division has rejected the interlocutory injunction application against the organizers of the #OccupyBoG Protest.
The police, who filed the application, withdrew it after they claimed that the event had taken place “peacefully.” On October 11, the Principal State Attorney, George Tetteh Sackey, informed the Court that the demonstration had already happened and requested to withdraw the application.
He added that the “demonstration was peaceful” when asked by the Court of the outcome.
Justice Edward Twum, consequently struck out the application as withdrawn.
Before the #OccupyBoG demonstration on October 3rd, which called for the resignation of Governor Dr. Ernest Addison and his deputies due to the central bank’s record of a Ghc60 billion loss in the 2022 financial year, the Police raised concerns about the protest route. Although there were legal procedures, the injunction application was not properly served on the respondents, and the protest went ahead on October 3rd despite the pending court case.
Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Arise Ghana’s Bernard Mornah, Rex Omar, and Masawudu Mohammed were named as respondents in the parliament’s minority case.
On September 26, the police accused the minority of evading service and requested one more attempt to serve them.
The organizers have already carried out the exercise. However, they expressed their intention to embark on another protest due to the Governor of the Central Bank’s failure to receive their petition.
