All People Congress (APC) founder and presidential hopeful, Hassan Ayarigah has said that corruption and poor leadership are to causes of Ghana’s debt.
On Tuesday, October 10, Mr. Ayarigah said on Faculty TV with Osaberima Kweku Acquah, “I have watched government actions from 2012 to the present and realized that government upon government have borrowed to the tune of about $50bn with the exclusion of other debts.
Mr. Ayarigah claims that Ghana has nothing to show for it; we arrived there as a result of poor management, corruption, and visionless leadership. Over the years, ignorant Ghanaians have repeatedly voted for the NPP and NDC knowing that they have done nothing to help us.
“They come to parliament with a bill to borrow to build roads, schools and when those bills are approved by parliament, they squander all that money. Corruption is to blame for Ghana’s inability to pay even interest on loans up to date”.
You may recall that Ghana had to implore China, Germany, and Italy to intervene on its behalf for us to receive an IMF bailout.
He went on to say that even government flagship initiatives like Agenda 111 and 1D1D have not yet been fully implemented, and the government has destroyed all of our factories.
Ghana’s $3 billion, 36-month Extended Credit Facility (ECF) was approved by the IMF Executive Board on May 17. This choice allowed for an immediate disbursement of almost US$600 million.
The three main goals of Ghana’s economic agenda are to rebuild macroeconomic stability, ensure debt sustainability, and provide the groundwork for faster and more inclusive growth.
Mr. Ayarigah emphasized, however, that the administration wasted the IMF funds and that coup d’etat was the only solution because we were included in all of the factors that other countries used to justify coup d’etats.
