Lawyers representing Bright Simons, the Vice President of IMANI Africa, have asked for information about how the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) used GH¢3.6 million.
The money was held by Fidelity Bank Ghana, and there is controversy because the bank reportedly cannot explain how the funds were used.
The KMA raised concerns about the GH¢3.6 million, which is part of a GH¢8 million loan from Fidelity Bank for the KMA-Krofrom Market Project. Only GH¢5 million was used for the project, and it’s not clear where the rest of the money went.
Fidelity Bank said that there is no missing GH¢3.6 million. They explained that GH¢8.6 million was given for the project, with GH¢4 million from Fidelity Bank’s approved loan and GH¢4.6 million from KMA’s contribution.
Bright Simons’ lawyers want to understand the agreement between Fidelity Bank and KMA. They expect KMA to provide the information without delays.
They believe there are legal and public policy reasons why the information should be shared without any exceptions or concerns about commercial secrets.
