In preparation for their opening game against Congo in the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Ghana’s U-23 team, Black Meteors, held their first training session in Morocco.
The squad successfully completed a pre-tournament training camp in Egypt, where they competed against both Zamalek and Egypt’s U-23 team. On Wednesday, they arrived in Rabat.
Ernersrt Nuamah, who was serving with the Black Stars, will now be joining Ibrahim Tanko’s team after both of those games ended in draws and victories with 25 players.
The coach will have a total of 26 players, which will be reduced to 23 today, after the withdrawal of the other two Black Stars players, Kamaladeen Sulemana and Ransford-Yeboah.
Positively, the training session was held at the Faith Union Sport Training Center with all available players fully participating, ensuring no injuries.
Prior to the official one tomorrow, a session will be held at the same site on Friday.
At the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, Morocco and Guinea will play in the tournament opener on Saturday, June 24, 2023.
The other Group A match will thereafter be played at the same location on Sunday, June 25, 2023, with Ghana and Congo.
Ghana hopes to finish in the top three in the competition in order to secure a spot in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Ghana had not been represented since 2004.
