The annual prohibition on drumming and making noise has been declared by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to go into effect from Monday, May 15, to Thursday, June 15, 2023.
In order to promote peace, unity, and national security during this time, the AMA issued instructions that must be adhered to.
According to the rules, all churches must conduct their events on their property and refrain from using musical instruments. Additionally, it is forbidden to place loudspeakers outside of churches, mosques, and bars during this time, and street evangelists are required to stop what they are doing.
Religious organizations and traditional leaders have been urged to treat one another with respect and to prevent their adherents from disparaging and inciting one another’s beliefs and customs.
The Ga Traditional Council has also prohibited burial ceremonies and related practices.
The AMA further stated that only a task force comprised of AMA staff, the Ghana Police Service, and Traditional Council representatives will police noise abatement in the metropolis, stressing that no other person or group of people should be observed executing the edict.
During the period, the statement requested all citizens within the AMA’s jurisdiction to cooperate and comply with the directive.
