Godfred Yeboah Dame, the attorney general and minister of justice, claims he has received death threats because of several cases that his office has chosen to pursue.
In an interview on JoyNews, he asserted that many of those attempting to take his life have also tried to pay him in order to affect his job.
“I can show you numerous on my phone, but we constantly receive such solicitations, such inducements, and even threats against our lives. It doesn’t focus solely on financial crimes, homicide, or even galamsey [illegal mining]. I am the type that tends not to rely on security, but there have been times when I have needed to examine my security. We regularly receive these offers and threats, Mr. Dame added.
The Attorney General stated that his office continues to operate in spite of these threats by putting up a fight against intimidation of any kind.
“We reject them because some of us have to act in line with the mandate given to us under the law and the constitution of Ghana,”
The young attorney claimed that despite these difficulties, he has been successful in protecting the state’s interests in court debt cases, putting changes into place, and successfully pursuing criminal offenses.
He stated, “I would want to be an Attorney General who motivated the staff and the staff attorneys to conduct matters effectively in court both locally and abroad, and I believe that is what truly necessary.” He added he would like to leave a zealous legacy.”
I prefer an attorney general’s office that is well-equipped to protect the interests of the state in all situations, both domestically and internationally. The Attorney General’s office ought to be regarded as the best division in the nation. We should be a shining example of success and greatness for the republic,” Mr. Dame continued.
