The campaign team of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has rejected the results of a survey conducted by Global Info Analytics.
According to the survey, Dr. Bawumia leads with 43.5% of the delegates’ votes, but none of the candidates, including Dr Bawumia, gained the required 50% majority to win the New Patriotic Party’s presidential race on November 4.
This indicates a possible run-off election. The survey also indicates that the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has gained significant support, securing 23.5% of the delegates’ backing.
The NPP race is expected to be closely contested, with 18.3% of delegates yet to make a decision, according to recent outcomes.
On October 26, Sammy Awuku, the spokesperson for Dr. Bawumia’s campaign team, stated that they do not believe Dr Bawumia’s popularity is decreasing.
He added that with the resignation of Alan Kyerematen, a former presidential aspirant, and the declaration of support for Dr. Bawumia by key members of his team, the Vice President’s support base should only increase, not decrease, to 43.5%.
Therefore, Mr Awuku noted that any poll that predicts less than 75% of the vote for the Vice president on November 4th is not credible.
According to him, the team is certain that their candidate is capable of emerging with a 75% to 80% win.
He stated that the team conducted an extensive campaign across the country to spread their candidate’s message of unity, ensuring that the New Patriotic Party wins the 2024 election.
He expressed confidence in achieving a 75% to 80% win for their candidate on November 4th, adding that he would be surprised to see the Vice President receive anything less than 75%.
He made it clear that he would not take any polls that predicted Dr. Bawumia receiving less than 75% seriously.
Meanwhile, the campaign team for Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, the former Food and Agriculture Minister, is optimistic that their candidate will pull off a big surprise in the race.
The spokesperson for the team, Dr. Prince Amuzu, said that the campaign message of his candidate resonates with the delegates.
Additionally, George Obeng Antwi, spokesperson for the Addai-Nimoh campaign team, said that Mr. Nimoh will emerge victorious.
He believes that his candidate was not given a fair chance in the superdelegates conference, yet he managed to make it among the final four aspirants.
Therefore, he does not believe in the outcome of the Global Info Analytics survey on his candidate. He stated that they cannot go by the polls because they do not know who they interviewed.
He further added that they are confident that Mr. Addai-Nimoh will be victorious and that people are tired and want to see a new face lead the country.
