The bill on the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values will be passed before the House adjourns for the Christmas holidays, as promised by Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin.
After the First Deputy Speaker turned down a request to take the bill up for consideration on Wednesday, the proponents of the Anti-Gay bill accused the Majority in Parliament of undermining the bill’s passage.
Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament Samuel Nartey George, one of the bill’s supporters, claimed the Majority Caucus is being deliberate and impeding the procedures required to pass the bill into law.
He went on to say that the bill’s supporters’ next move will be to publicly identify and publicly shame the majority of MPs who they claim have been swayed by to support LGBT causes in this country.
Since then, the Majority Caucus has refuted the accusations.
The head of the Parliament’s Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, refuted the claim of sabotage and stated that the Ningo-Prampram MP is aware of the problems that are delaying the bill’s passage.
The Speaker responded to the events in Parliament by stating that the bill will be introduced before the House adjourns for the Christmas and New Year holidays.
