In an unexpected change of events, Alan Kyeremateng, a well-known member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), declared his intention to leave the party and contest as an independent candidate in the forthcoming 2024 elections.
Given that he has been a devoted supporter of the NPP for many years, Kyeremateng’s move has shocked the ruling party.
Kyeremateng, an experienced politician, is well known for his work with the NPP and his roles in multiple government departments.
On Monday, September 25, Mr. Kyeremateng did, however, give his reasons for leaving the party at a press conference held in Accra.
“Under the circumstances and in the context suggested, I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honorably resigning with immediate effect from the New Patriotic Party to run as an Independent Presidential Candidate in the 2024 General Elections for the high office of President of the Republic of Ghana.”
Kyeremateng expressed his commitment to solving the critical difficulties the nation is experiencing, including social welfare, economic development, and job creation. He claimed that he made the choice to run as an independent because he thought it would allow him to better represent Ghanaians’ interests.
His independent campaign poses a specific threat to Ghana’s existing political system and has the ability to change the political landscape.
This is Mr. Kyeremateng’s second resignation from the NPP.
In 2008, Alan resigned from the NPP in a similar manner out of resentment about the party’s defeat in the 2007 presidential primary and what he later regarded as being ignored. However, he later rejoined the party after political pressure.
A pivotal moment in Ghanaian politics was created by Kyeremateng’s decision to leave the NPP once more and run as an independent in the 2024 elections.
