President Akufo-Addo has directed the Finance Ministry to disburse ¢1.5 billion to aid customers affected by the banking sector clean-up operation.
Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam conveyed this instruction during a UK Town Hall meeting over the weekend.
Dr. Amin Adam stressed that the disbursement is to be executed between the present time and October, underscoring the government’s prioritization of the welfare of the Ghanaian populace.
He underscored the notion that individuals are responsible for their investment decisions, absolving the government of liability.
However, he acknowledged the suffering of those affected due to lack of information and guidance, stating, “Mistakes were made and people were not well-informed, and they didn’t know who to consult to be advised, but we also know that the people who are affected are suffering, and we have heard that some people have died and others had to commit suicide.”
Furthermore, Dr. Amin Adam announced the successful completion of Ghana’s debt restructuring program with its official creditors.
He highlighted the government’s effective restructuring of its $5.1 billion debt with these creditors, along with the concluded restructuring of $13.1 billion with Eurobond holders.
