All Ghanaian institutions have been asked by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to deepen their relationships with business and government in order to make sure that their education and research support the aspirations of the country for growth.
At the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale, President Akufo-Addo made this statement on Thursday, August 22, 2024, following the dedication of the Silver Jubilee Building.
As the most effective weapon for transforming our country, he informed the audience, his government has made significant investments in this field.
The No Guarantor Policy has significantly improved access to tertiary education, removing financial barriers and opening doors for countless young Ghanaians, he said.
Additionally, he stated, “our substantial support for research and academic development reflects our belief in the power of knowledge to drive national progress.”
The commissioning, he said, is a significant milestone that underscores his commitment to advancing education in Ghana.
“This three-storey complex, which houses lecture halls and offices, is not just a building; it symbolizes our shared vision for a brighter future and our dedication to providing quality education for all.
“I am proud to have fulfilled the promise I made in 2018 during UDS’s 25th-anniversary celebration, ensuring that this institution continues to thrive as a hub for innovation and intellectual growth.
“As we celebrate this achievement, I urge all universities in Ghana to strengthen their ties with industry and government to ensure that their research and teaching align with our nation’s development goals.
“Together, we are building a brighter future for Ghana, and I am confident that with continued investment in education, we can unleash the full potential of our young people and propel our country to greater heights,” he wrote on Facebook after the commissioning.
