Today, the Minister of Energy and the leadership of the Volta River Authority (VRA) are scheduled to appear before Parliament.
They will provide a detailed briefing on the recent spillage of the Akosombo Dam and its severe impact on communities along the Volta River basin.
In the past few weeks, many residents in parts of the Volta and Greater Accra regions have faced displacement. They have seen their homes, properties, and farmlands submerged due to the overflow of water from the dam.
The Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, addressed Parliament last week and assured that his ministry would be transparent and accountable to the public regarding the situation.
He stated that VRA, which is under the Ministry of Energy, takes responsibility for the national disaster and emergency that is currently affecting people in the South.
Although there is an inter-ministerial advisory team, his ministry will take responsibility for informing the public about what VRA has done and hasn’t done once they have completed everything.
He also pledged to be present at the next meeting with VRA to provide an update.
