As Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta read the mid-year budget review in Parliament on Monday, July 31, Isaac Adongo, a member of parliament for Bolgatanga Central Constituency, claims he had to wake up to wake up his colleagues.
He claimed that everyone who was chanting “Yeah yeah” was actually dozing off during the talk.
After the Finance Minister delivered the 2023 budget review, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) stated.
No additional budget was released by Mr. Ofori-Atta, although he did evaluate the revenue goals and GDP growth rate in more detail.
All of that did not excite the Minority.
According to the Finance Committee’s ranking member, “We all listened to the funeral dirge.”
“At some point, I had to get up and tell them to stop dozing and pay attention to the speaker.
“So, they were sleeping when they finally stood up and said, “Yeah Yeah. I was so shocked when they abruptly awoke and began shouting despite not having heard the man speak.
Mr. Adongo criticized the Bank of Ghana harshly for the economy’s apparent decline, saying that the bank “cannot conduct monetary policy at this time without printing money because it has no money yet you claim you have turned the corner.”
But Mr. Ofori-Atta asserted in front of the legislature that the government has made progress.
“This ‘turning the corner’ is supported by the collective investments and sacrifices we have made during this challenging period since March 2020,” the statement reads.
