Bessa Simons, the acting president of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), has stated that he will play no role in the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) umping elections on Tuesday, August 8.
Bessa Simons told Graphic Showbiz that his current duty as acting President of MUSIGA was to fill a void and secure the union’s continued administration.
“We have an election committee, led by Mr. Peter Marfo, that is doing an excellent job.” They are handling the election on their own. I’m just doing what all the other candidates are doing. Everything an aspirant does is the same as what I do.
“The Arbitration Committee established the rules prior to the court ruling, and the Election Committee will be guided by the constitution.”
“My only role now is to ensure that the administration secures the funds necessary to conduct the election.” Furthermore, “there will be a huge vacuum without a running team, and MUSIGA’s constitution does not allow for that,” he explained.
The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) announced in March of this year that the organization would hold elections on Tuesday, August 8, 2023.
After nearly four years of court orders, postponements, and internal strife, NEC recommended the date for the national and regional elections. The NEC opted to approve the election committee’s recommended road map during an emergency meeting, according to a press release signed by Bessa Simons.
In the 2019 elections, Bessa Simons, Ras Caleb Appiah-Levi, and Deborah Freeman are running for president of MUSIGA.
