Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, a potential flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has sworn not to be exploited by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against the organization for which he has shed blood and sweat.
The former governor of the Bank of Ghana lamented the NPP government’s failure of his enterprises, saying he would be the last person to allow himself to harm the NDC.
He claimed that the NPP government’s action had deeply offended him and that he would never again allow them to stand in the way of the NDC.
There were several rumors that Dr. Duffuor was being supported by the ruling NPP to run for the position of NDC flagbearer.
“Nothing can make me stop loving the NDC because I funded it, hence I am the NDC. My banks were devastated by the NPP, and they attempted to bring down all of my enterprises. I want to let you know that I have been harmed by the NPP more than any other party member. I will never be used by the NPP to overthrow the NDC. To improve Ghana, my main goal is to put the NDC back in power, stated Dr. Duffuor.
As part of his campaigning in the area, he said this when addressing NDC delegates in the Ashanti Region’s Adansi Asokwa Constituency.
The apex bank noted that uniBank was considerably undercapitalized during the banking sector clean-up, which started in 2017. As a result, the license was terminated.
On March 23, the former finance minister and prospective NDC flagbearer turned in his candidacy paperwork to the Accra-based party’s headquarters. The candidate claims that when he submitted his nomination, he made a commitment to the party.
“I pledge to work for the NDC and Ghana to ensure that we give Ghanaians a renewed sense of hope and national pride and that we put our economy back on a path toward prosperity as well as recovery. We have done that before, so it is feasible. NDC will repeat it. Because of the way our economy has been mismanaged, Ghanaians have tears in their eyes and agony in their hearts.
