As the winner of the Artiste of the Year award at the 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), Black Sherif may now proudly wear the moniker “King Blacko” with pride and plenty of bragging rights.
The gospel community and the commercial music industry competed for first place in the competition to the grand finals.
There was a subset of music fans that want a replication of the illustrious Artiste of the Year categories for gospel musicians in 2017 and 2021.
The first gospel musician to win it was Joe Mettle in 2017, and Diana Hamilton followed suit in 2021.
On the evening, Black Sherif took home three prizes, including the coveted Artiste of the Year Award, Best Hip-Pop Song, and Vodafone Most Popular Song of the Year Award.
Piesie Esther, his strongest rival, lost the grand prize to the Konongo soldier despite having won the Gospel Song of the Year and Gospel Artiste of the Year awards.
King Promise, Kidi, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Camido, and Joe Mettle were among the other performers in the Artiste of the Year category.
Kidi, the winner from the prior year, is succeeded by Black Shrief.
