“There will be no confrontation when Parliament reconvenes on Tuesday; if necessary, we will walk out,” stated Alexander Afenyo Markin, the Majority Leader.
In response to a press conference held by members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Sunday, Mr. Afenyo Markin emphasized that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has sought interpretation from the Supreme Court, which has issued a directive.
He noted that a bailiff from the Supreme Court is set to serve Parliament on Monday morning as agreed. If the NDC chooses to act otherwise when Parliament meets on Tuesday, his side will simply walk out.
Mr. Afenyo Markin made these comments during a radio interview on Accra-based Peace FM, as reported by Faculty tv on Monday morning, October 21, 2024.
His remarks come amid public speculation about a potential showdown, particularly as the NDC has indicated plans to switch seats to the Majority side following the Speaker’s ruling last Thursday, and to proceed with amending laws to abolish the Communication Tax (e-levy) and appointing a new Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
