Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has cautioned that if the Electoral Commission (EC) does not take the appropriate measures, there will chaos in the country.
According to him, the EC must listen to political parties’ concerns and act on their recommendations, especially if they can be remedied before the elections.
“If our country is not vigilant, the EC will lead us to disaster. The statements they make make us wonder if they are really qualified for the role. There have been occasions where people were unaware of transfers to other sections of the country. “The records are there.”
On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) held a nationwide demonstration in protest against the Electoral Commission (EC).
The NDC is accusing the EC of refusing to allow for a forensic audit of the voters register after it alleged a number of anomalies, including illegal but mass transfer of voters in many places.
The Deputy Commissioner of Operations at the Electoral Commission has condemned the National Democratic Congress for its decision to hold a demonstration over the EC’s refusal to conduct a forensic audit of the voter’s register.
Samuel Tettey argued that protests would not lead to a credible voter’s register.
In response to this, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe added that national elections are a serious step, and it is the responsibility of the Electoral Commission to address any concerns that arise.
“Where we are going to now, for Tettey to come and say they are not going to listen to demands that have been brought by the NDC is a serious matter,” he said.
