The National Democratic Congress National Chairman has reaffirmed that if the committee formed to look into the 2020 election violence’s recommendations is not followed, the party will not sign any peace deals.
The Peace Council made pleas to the NDC to sign a Peace Pact in advance of the elections in December, but the NDC declined.
At a campaign rally in Agormanya, Lower Manya Krobo Constituency, NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah emphasized that the party will not commit to peace until those accountable for previous electoral violence are held.
“Those leaders urging us to sign the peace pact must understand that every life matters. We cannot allow people to die in pursuit of power. The lives lost during the election must not be in vain. If such actions cannot be held accountable as crimes, we will not sign the peace pact.”
“We will not let wrongdoers walk free, using the peace pact as a scapegoat. We need to set an example to deter others. We will never sign a pact that allows impunity. We owe it to the victims and their families to seek justice.”
