A shooting incident that happened early on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, in Okanta, near Nsawam in the Eastern Region, led to one person’s death and an injury to a police officer. The Ghana Police Service arrested five people in connection with the incident.
When the complainant, Daniel Dosu, and a few police officers from the Eastern South Regional Police Headquarters arrived in Okanta to make an arrest, an unidentified assailant ambushed them.
The injured police officer and the complainant Daniel Dosu were taken to the hospital for treatment after sustaining a gunshot wound to the forehead. In a statement, the Police Service stated that Daniel Dosu was declared dead upon arrival.
After the attack, the Police announced that an intelligence-led operation resulted in the arrest of Daniel Quaye, the key suspect. It was later revealed that Quaye was one of the individuals that the deceased complainant was pushing the Police to apprehend.
Four more suspects, Anum Joseph, Joshua Aboagye, Kwesi Acquaye, and Acquaye Samuel, were arrested after further police investigation, and suspect Daniel Quaye’s weapon was discovered.
While the injured police officer has been treated and released from the hospital, the deceased person’s body has been placed in the morgue of the Police Hospital for preservation and autopsy.
“Suspect Daniel Quaye, together with the four accomplices, are currently in Police custody assisting the investigation”, the police administration concluded.
