On Friday, May 24, CAF brought the four-day competition to a spectacular climax in Zanzibar with a fantastic evening of African youth football celebration. This marked the conclusion of the CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals.
As South Africa advanced to the top of African youth football as champions in the girls’ division after a 1-1(5-4) victory over Morocco, a crowded Amaan Stadium witnessed history being made in Zanzibar: Tanzania was crowned champions in front of their home fans after defeating Guinea in the boys’ division of the competition.
CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe, who had earlier in the day visited the Zanzibar State House to meet with H.E. Dr Hussein Mwinyi, attended the tournament’s final, which was held on the island in Tanzania between May 21 and 24.
The afternoon saw a competitive competition for the bronze medal before of the two finals. In the girls’ third-place play-off, Uganda persevered to defeat the hosts, Tanzania.
Senegal defeated Benin in the boys’ bronze medal match after a closely contested draw that needed to be decided on penalties.
