The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has requested permission from John Dramani Mahama, the former president and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to assume the office of president as he has already held it.
Compared to the previous president, who was limited to one term, he claims to be able to serve two terms.
Dr. Bawumia adds that since they are both from the North, it would be fitting for him to become president.
He made this statement on Sunday, May 19, during his visit with Wa Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV at his palace in Wa.
“I and my main opponent John Dramani Mahama are all your children,” Dr Bawumia said. He’s been president previously, and we’re both from the North. Since I haven’t held the office of president before, I’ll advise John Dramani Mahama my elder brother that he should be patient with me so that I can also lead this nation as its president.
“The president should serve eight years instead of four years if it is coming home, as I will be able to hold the office for eight years while he can only serve for four.”
