Seth Abloso, a labor analyst, has expressed concern about the debate surrounding the Social Security and National Insurance Trust’s (SSNIT) viability.
According to him, there is a lot of political meddling in the pension plan’s administration.
“It means SSNIT has not been managed to the expectation of its membership, and it’s clear,” Abloso said in an interview with Johnnie Hughes on 3FM. Too much political meddling is taking place in SSNIT’s management.
The analyst brought up recent occurrences at SSNIT, including the abrupt dismissal of the Director-General. The marching orders for a Director-General were only recently given. The letter’s tone, which begs him to return home, makes it rather evident that something is off, and it will always be a mark against his credibility.
Replacement of Director-General
Using disparities between the initial letter of dismissal and the subsequent steps, Abloso drew attention to irregularities in the way the Director-General’s replacement was handled.
“Then, it was promptly shown to us that he had done nothing improper. However, the opening paragraph of the letter that was sent him home referred to the Public Services Commission’s appointment letter. However, we did not see the Public Services Commission involved in the announcement of the replacement,” he stated.
Abloso also took issue with the choice of a Deputy Director-General who was allegedly involved in contentious former projects. He said, “You pushed him, a deputy director general who was signing documents for a certain AGYAPA project not too long ago even while he was deputy director general and hasn’t resigned from SSNIT.”
The analyst asked the workforce to pay attention, highlighting the negative effects of political meddling on SSNIT’s operations. “The suffering of SSNIT has been caused by political meddling. The workforce ought to be more than rattled,” he declared.
Abloso brought up earlier audits and prosecution suggestions to highlight historical concerns about SSNIT’s regulations.
These unsettling rules have also been observed in 2021. Yaw Osafo-Maafo, the Finance Minister at the time, ordered a forensic audit of SSNIT, which was carried out by Deloitte Worldwide Investment and other consultants, he disclosed.
Abloso urged stakeholders to address the fundamental problems ailing the institution and emphasized the need for accountability and openness in SSNIT’s management in light of these disclosures.
