The recently ended 13th African Games have been deemed a massive fiasco by the Minority in Parliament.
Despite the $240 million spent on the event, several members of the Ghanaian delegation have noted issues, which the Members of Parliament (MPs) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have questioned the justification for.
In a statement, President Akufo-Addo praised the country’s delegation and organizers, saying their achievements had shamed the doubters.
However, a minority spokesperson for youth and sports in parliament, Komla Mensah Woyome, told the media that while the President’s labeling of opponents as naysayers are concerning, it is not unusual.
He claimed that during the Games, the authorities ignored sports legends in favor of party operatives.
As a result, the South Tongu MP demanded a bipartisan Parliamentary investigation of the funding and expenses related to the planning and execution of the Games.
Mr. Woyome, however, gave recognition to the athletes who overcame obstacles to win the most medals in the nation’s history.
