The Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, is advocating for legislation to ensure the government is responsible for the welfare of former lawmakers.
This is in response to concerns about the precarious condition of former legislators, some of whom have died due to neglect.
During a statement commemorating the late MP for Ketu North, the Majority Leader emphasized the need to address these issues urgently.
He urged the House to make the welfare of former MPs a mandatory part of the conditions of service.
During a tribute to the late Kwadwo Tawiah Likpalimor, former MP for Kpandai, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, highlighted the challenges faced by former MPs.
He called for a system that safeguards the well-being of former parliamentarians after their tenure.
